SEA
KAYAKING NEWFOUNDLAND'S
SOUTH COAST

"The Little Lodge"
| "A JOURNEY BACK IN TIME"
A kayak trip to this part of the South coast
of Newfoundland is a journey back into a rich unspoiled part of the province's
traditions and folklore. A dependence on the sea both as a source of
livelihood and a means of transportation has bred a hardy race of mariners who
ply some of the roughest and most temperamental sea coast in North America. Rivaling
Labrador for its rugged coastal wilderness, it is virtually unchanged since
the Europeans first landed here over five centuries ago.
Together we will explore this kayaker's
paradise and also visit Long Harbour Fjord which extends over 25 km inland to
the mouth of Long Harbour River, one of Newfoundland's premier Atlantic Salmon
Fishing destinations.
DAY 1: August 13, 2011 Trip by van from St. John's to English Harbour East, the kick-off point for our
boat ride along this magnificent coast. From the boat we get a glimpse of what
we are about to explore over the next 6 days. As the coast slowly drifts by,
we see the effects of thousands of years of glaciation. We land at Pissing
Mare Cove where we will enjoy comfortable wilderness camping in the solitude and serenity of this
wilderness playground. The next morning is spent loading our kayaks and
preparing for the kayak adventure about to unfold! |

August
14 to August 18, 2011
DAY 2 to DAY 6: A full five days awaits us of exploring this
fascinating fjord with it's cascading waterfalls and sheer granite walls
rising abruptly thousands of feet from the sea. Bald eagles, caribou, whales
and porpoise may be seen, along with icebergs, sea caves and giant sea stacks.
We will also take time to hike to the upper rim and swim in the sparkling
waters of the pristine lakes which dot the coastline.
DAY 6: August 18, 2011 After
five rewarding days of this glacier formed scenery and remarkable
geology, we enjoy our last evening around the
campfire reminiscing about the fantastic voyage of discovery just completed.
DAY 7: August 19, 2011 After a hearty breakfast in this sea kayaker's paradise we prepare for our
boat ride back to English Harbour East and on to St. John's.
INCLUDES: All ground
transportation from St. John's to English Harbour East and return, Coastal boat
ride to Long Harbour and return, kayak & camping equipment, fine food and
